“Poultry Health and Safe Egg Production” seminar organized by Yum-Bir and sponsored by our company was held at 22 May 2010 at Rixos Hotel Konya. With the participation of Yum-Bir Association Heads, producers from Konya, authorities from General Directorate of Protection and Control, veterinaries from public and private sectors, Konya Province Director of Agriculture and representatives from provider companies the seminar was efficient and colourful. The participants said that they benefited much from the organization which began with the seminar at noon and ended up with the gala dinner.
Derya Pala, President of the Association, making the keynote speech and evaluating the poultry sector, informed about the work done by the Association for the past four years and the work to be planned for the new period. Pala said that the egg producers was stronger than before thanks to their organization formed from the ground to the top and that the future would come with unity. He added that their association would become lasting and stronger with the commercial partnerships, provision of such fundamental inputs as feed, medicine and breeders at a cheaper price, increasing egg production capacity and extending export markets.
Pala summarized the work they are planning for the new period as follows:
- Follow the developments in egg production in Turkey and in the world and inform and lead the members about them.
- Continue to search alternative markets to increase egg export, collaborate with Export Promotion Centre (IGEME) and other relevant organizations and participate in international fairs to that end.
- Carry on activities, as in previous years, to tell nutritive value of the egg and commemorate World Egg Day.
- Carry on such scientific activities towards egg production as panels and seminars.
- Develop relationship and cooperation with organizations which provide inputs and services based on solution partnerships.
- Organize local meetings with the producers to strengthen member relations with the association.
- As in previous years, collect and publish data about egg production.
- Attempt to buy a service building for the Association.
- Develop joint projects with domestic and international organizations and continue to search for grant-in-aid projects.
Dr. Gülşen Orhan from Konya Ceren Veterinary made a presentation on “The Situation of Marek’s Disease in Turkey and the Economic Losses”, Veterinary Halil Başaran made a presentation on “Salmonella Control in Layer Farms and E.U. Legislation” and Agricultural Engineer M. Şahin Akdenizli member of the executive board of our company informed the attendants on “Nutrition Principles in Layers.”
M. Şahin Akdenizli underlying the fact that egg producers have a production process which deserves the most serious effort and attention among the others and stressed in his speech on important criteria of poultry farming and the important points in feed production explaining how to obtain healthy and productive feed standard. He underlined the point that the problem was not production but consumption and export. He stressed the point that the objective was to produce projects to increase domestic consumption concentrating on the production of quality eggs and to become a preferred country in export. Stressing upon brand building, he stated that the aim was to decrease the production costs and produce the egg which is in great demand in the world.
